Anemia Maybe? (Week 21)
This week has been odd. All told, life has been fairly laid back, and I hardly know what to write about.
A wave of near sickening exhaustion hit me at the middle of the week, and it's only just now choosing to lift. On Thursday I slept all day. I made it to morning worship, and then asked to take a nap. That nap lasted until supper time, and I only woke up once. I'm not sure if I have been fighting something, or if it's just another step in the road of recovery from the go-go, zoom-zoom culture of the US.
I think that the most likely explanation is that my anemia is coming back. Which frankly, is kind of expected. People who live in lower elevations tend to have a lower hemoglobin count in their red blood cells then people who live at higher elevation. While it's usually normal for someone to have a hemoglobin count of 13-15, the average for people in Pucallpa is 11-13. (I'm remembering these numbers off the top of my head from a class we had with the AMOR Projects doctor last week, so they may not be 100% accurate.)
I have blood builders with me because I'm already predisposed to anemia, but... I've kind forgotten to take them lately. I know. I know. :/ Whoops! So at a time when normal people would need blood builders, it's no wonder I'm starting to feel tired.
In other news, I got to Facetime several of my friends this week. Oh! I wish I could express how much those calls meant to me. Every week I feel more and more like a part of my new Peruvian family, but it is so life giving to hear from my people back home. They had me crying, smiling, laughing, hoping, planning, and knowing that I am loved. Thank you, all!
In other news (times two), we have been working like crazy this week to prepare for a Vacation Bible School we're hosting at the clinic this next week. My guess is that you've rarely seen so much time, effort, and love put into VBS before. Countless hours have been spent hand crafting safari animals, painting these animals, and learning songs. Yours truly will play the dignified role of "elefante" in which I get to stomp around and act very comical. I have already been quite the sight.
